To remember Everitt is to remember a man who accomplished many things in life, but to know him is to understand what a wonderful and compassionate human being he was. From his early days riding horses in his birth place in Kansas, then growing up in Alaska and becoming an Eagle Scout, to moving to California and becoming a successful attorney, to moving to Florida to be a best friend for his granddaughter, Everitt never lost sight of what mattered most, that all life is special and unique and should never be taken for granted.
Like a beautiful sunrise or passing sunset, a majestic mountain peak or lush forest valley, Everitt understood that beauty was timeless and has many forms, but to be understood, beauty had to be shared with those we love the most. While we can remember Everitt reflecting upon the stars or sitting on a rock and watching the clouds drifting along, what we will remember most of all is that he was always there for us. From when we needed some advice or a just shoulder to cry on, Everitt always made time to listen and in his own special way made us better.
Everitt was not just a scholar or an athlete or a champion for those who needed a voice, but he was also an optimist who never once gave up his belief that inherently inside all of us is goodness. Everitt understood that age is a timeline, but not a measuring stick. He would often remind us to not neglect our inner child and allow ourselves to run free, to explore life in all its bold adventures, in all its infinite realities. From flying above the clouds, to racing down a mountain, to the depths of diving the deepest oceans, Everitt immersed himself in all that life had to offer.
While Everitt was a man of many principals, some scientific in their nature and others mathematical in their scope, he always believed that all acts of kindness, no matter how big or how small, are what count the most. From giving a gentle ear rub to puppies, to sharing a hug that one never wanted to let go, Everitt gave a lot of his time to making this world special.
Everitt, we will remember you for all that you were and all that you gave and all that you wanted to be. You touched each of our hearts in so many ways that only now can we start to see. Thank you for being you and thank you for the memories.
